Nila A. (McClellan) Henry

Nila A. Henry, 79, of Irvona, died on Dec. 31, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family.

Born Jan. 30, 1944 in Kansas City, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Cecil McClellan, Sr. and Mildred Moberly.

She married Clifford R. Henry at the Hollentown Christian Missionary & Alliance Church on Dec. 28, 1963.

Nila was a 1961 graduate of the Reade Township High School. She previously worked for several sewing factories, she was a bus driver for Jones Transportation and she was the assistant billing clerk at the Irvona Municipal Authority, both positions from where she retired.

She was the current tax collector for Irvona Borough, a position she has held for 33 years.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mom and Mimi.

Mrs. Henry was a member of the Coalport United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Irvona Vol. Fire Co., where she was a past treasurer. She was a member of the Central District Volunteer Firemen's Association and a member of the Pennsylvania State Tax Collector's Association. She was also a former boy scout leader.

Nila is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clifford of Irvona; two sons, Clifford "Chip" Henry and wife Teri of Altoona and Michael Henry and wife Stephanie of Curwensville RD; and three daughters, Michelle Whetstone and husband Terry of Irvona, Carol Flick Conaway and husband Bob of Fallentimber; and Marty Vigne of Coalport; and five grandchildren, Jenna Salemi and husband Paul of Pittsburgh, Seth and Nate Conaway of Fallentimber; and Colin and Isaac Henry of Irvona, Curwensville, RD.

She is also survived by two brothers, Cecil and wife Debbie of Blandburg and Leon and wife Linda of Glasgow; and two sisters, Linda Hockenberry of Tyrone and Patty Harrison and husband Gary of Irvona.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Denny; and two sisters, Mary Le Shope and Donna Jean Crowell.

A Memorial Service will be held on Jan. 6, 2024 at 10 a.m. at the Irvona Christian Missionary & Alliance Church with the Rev. Doug Williams and Paul Burchill officiating.

Interment will be at Fruit Hill Cemetery.
