Herman Smith, 73, of Irvona died May 3, 2018 at the Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown.
Born Nov. 15, 1944 in McKeesport, he was the son of the late George and Frances (Freeman) Smith.
He was a member of the Irvona Fire Company. He served as a past treasurer for the fire company.
He was recently a member of the Irvona Borough Council. He previously served as vice president.
He was an avid NASCAR fan.
He’s survived by his wife, Gail (Merritt) Smith; son, Daniel Smith and his wife, Sandra of Irvona; and sisters, Jackie Pavlo and Dorothy Swisshelm and her husband, Russell, both of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George Smith, David Smith, William Smith, Joseph Smith, Homer Smith, Robert Smith and the Rev. JT Campbell; sisters, Frances Hockenberry, Beverly Thompson, Joan Harrison and Marian Berry; niece, Dorothy Hockenberry; grandson, Jacob Daniel Smith; and granddaughter, Kathryn Ann Smith.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lloyd Dimmick Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastors Dick Michael and Jim Hurd officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, rural LaJose.
