John "Junior" Miles Jr., 95, of Irvona went to be with his Savior in Heaven on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022.
He was born on Jan. 27, 1926, the son of John K. and Esther (Nedimyer) Miles.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and after returning home, he went back to work for Swank (TYK) Refractories. He was a member of the Irvona C&MA Church where he served on the board and as an elder for many years.
On April 23, 1948 he married Victoria A. Desmett, and they had almost 74 years together.
The raised four children, Dave (Laurie) of Houtzdale, Dan (Ruth) of Irvona, Jeanne of Irvona, and Sharon (Sid) Ellis of Morrisdale. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jason (Lori) Miles, Lisa (PJ) Matier, Danielle, Megan and Mallory Miles, Scott (Dana), Sid (Katie) and Derek Ellis; great-grandchildren, Elisha Matier, Amber (Jeffery) Henry, Amaura, Audrina, Archer, Brooke and Addison Ellis. Also surviving is a brother, Roger; and sisters, Vivian Michaels, Luella Desmett and Donna Gillen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin (Bud), George, Floyd and Jerry; sisters, Betty Morris, Florene Pitcock and Twila Smyers; and an infant granddaughter.
The family would like to thank Penn Highlands Hospice for their dedicated service over the last 10 months.
There will be no public viewing.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are being handled by the Lloyd-Dimmick Funeral Home, Irvona.
