Obituary

Joseph Turano Sr., 71, of Coalport, passed away on Sunday surrounded by his family. He was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, son of Frank and Casimira B. (Arbaczewski) Turano.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Paulette (Campbell); and sisters: Katherine Ruebusch (the late James), Carmella Boiarski (the late Michael), Frances Turano, Mary Hannold (the late Alan); children: Ann Cimino (Chris) of Roaming Shores, Ohio; Angelina Turano of Jefferson, Ohio; and Joseph Turano Jr. (Ruth) of Northern Cambria; stepdaughter, Melissa Lukehart (Rodger) of Coalport; grandchildren: Christopher Turano, Triniti Wurgler, Giovanni, Bella, Scarlett and Luigi Turano, Makenzie, Madison and Jacob Lukehart; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank (1997) and Casimira (2004); daughter, Christina (1974); favorite uncle, Lou Turano (1989); and his beloved dog, Sampson (2023).

Joseph retired from the railroad as a conductor in 2013, where he started in 1970, working at the Ashtabula, Collinwood, Dunkirk and Altoona yards. He was well-known as “Robo Joe.”

During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing, boating on Glendale Lake, having a small farm and enjoying his many acres of land. He was also a die-hard Cleveland sports fan.

Special thanks to Encompass Health, UPMC Hospice, Missie, Rodger Lukehart and their children, who all selflessly gave him comfortable and loving care to the end.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Invitations will be created with a Facebook Event and shared when scheduled.
