Kurt Brothers Obituary

Kurt C. Brothers, 64, of LaJose passed away May 8, 2024 at home.

He was born Aug. 26, 1959 in Spangler, the son of the late Clyde C. and Constance H. (Kramp) Brothers.

Kurt was no stranger to hard work. Before the age of 16 he drove a milk truck in the local community. He was a graduate of Harmony Area High School, class of 1977. Kurt always had a passion for diesel trucks and decided to pursue further education a WACC to become a certifies diesel mechanic. After graduation Kurt left his hometown and moved to Berwick to work at Wise Potato Chip company as a mechanic. He gained lots of experience and decided to move back to his home area and worked at Ross's Diesel and later moved jobs to the Tannery firing boilers.

He drove truck locally and worked with Shae Harkleroad doing electrical work. Kurt then decided to teach others about his passion, diesel mechanics. In 1991, Kurt started working for Clearfield County Career and Technology Center as a diesel mechanic instructor, knowing he had the drive and heart to educate his students with a lasting effect. Kurt took night classes to complete his teaching certificate. While working at the tech center he would take project trucks/equipment/tractors to use as examples to teach his students how to troubleshoot.

One of the project trucks belonged to Bill Beck. While working on that truck Kurt met the love of his life, Missy Beck. Bill Beck would later become Kurt's father-in-law. The couple loved attending fairs and watching truck and tractor pulls. Kurt and Missy were married on July 7, 2001. Kurt continued to work at the tech center and would later start teaching truck drivers training to help even more students achieve their career goals. Kurt would also help at his wife's pizza shop in Irvona, "Choo Choo's Pizza." He would be in the back running the ovens while Missy made the pizzas.

Meanwhile, they expanded their family with three wonderful children, Marissa, Mariah and Kacey. Kurt loved being a father and was there for each of his kids. After 26 years as an instructor at CCCTC, Kurt retired from teaching and decided to get on the road again as a truck driver.

He drove multiple types of trucks. Kurt then retired from trucking to spend more time with his family and be able to attend all of their extracurricular activities. He remained very active in the community as a mechanic/driver for Burnside Township and was a member of the Harmony School Board.

Kurt not only was hardworking but he was always involved in the community. He was a fireman with the Westover Area Vol. Fire Co. for 33 years. He was a member of the East Ridge Methodist Church, taught Sunday School earlier in life and was a trustee for many years.

Pulling trucks and tractors was another of Kurt's passions. He won may truck pulls with his iconic "Hummin Cummins." More recently, he enjoyed getting the tractors ready with his kids for the next pull. Kurt was a proud member of the Harmony Grange and 4-H alumni. Kurt enjoyed 4H so much that his kids are active the Harmony 4-H club. Kurt loved their family dog, Benji and would always have him on his lap while watching TV. He loved going away on family vacations, whether it was camping cruising.
